Nurul Islam Nahid, former education minister, has been appointed as the new chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on LGRD on Sunday.
He has replaced ruling Awami League Lawmaker from Faridpur-3, Khandker Mosharraf Hossain.
Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton on behalf of Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina placed the proposal in parliament and it was passed by voice vote.
Khandker Mosharraf, former LGRD minister, who has long been staying abroad, remained absent in the parliament.
Since March last year, the parliamentary standing committee could not hold any meeting due to his absence in parliament, sources at the Parliament Secretariat said.
