Good news for the energy sector! After nearly two months of maintenance, the second unit of the Payra 1,320 MW thermal power plant in Patuakhali has started generating electricity again.
The unit resumed operations around 9:30 PM on Monday, signaling the end of the maintenance work.
Shah Moni Ziko, Assistant Manager (Investigation) at the Payra Power Plant, confirmed that the unit is now back in action.
The second unit had been temporarily shut down for maintenance since November 9th of last year.
But now, both units of the plant are back online, supplying the full 1,320 MW of electricity to the national grid, which is a significant boost.
This restart follows the earlier restoration of the first unit (660 MW), which had been offline for 14 days.
With both units now operational, the Payra thermal power plant is back to full power.
In other exciting news, a new 1,320 MW thermal power plant (RNPL) is being built in Dhanakhali, Kalapara, right next to the Payra plant.
This new facility is expected to begin test operations in January, with the official launch scheduled for March.
This development is a big step forward in meeting the country’s growing energy demands and strengthening the power sector.
