Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today expressed deep shock over the loss of lives and the widespread destruction caused by devastating earthquake in Indonesia.
"On behalf of the Government and the people of Bangladesh, I convey my deepest condolences to you, the Government and the brotherly people of the Republic of Indonesia following the devastating earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara Province," he said in a condolence message sent to Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto.
The prime minister said the people of Bangladesh are deeply saddened by the loss of 38 lives and the widespread destruction caused by this tragic disaster, which measured 7.7 in magnitude.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this devastating calamity.
"We wish the injured a speedy recovery and hope that the ongoing rescue and relief efforts will bring much-needed assistance and comfort to those in distress," he said.
Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh stands in solidarity with Indonesia at this difficult hour and remains ready to extend all possible support and assistance.
