Unit-1 of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has shut down again due to a mechanical fault.
The unit went offline around 11am on Friday. It had been supplying 50 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
Abu Bakar Siddique, chief engineer of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant, confirmed the matter.
He said Unit-1 was shut down due to a mechanical fault and that efforts were underway to repair the problem and restart the unit as soon as possible.
According to plant officials, Unit-1 was last shut down on July 31 due to a mechanical fault. It was restarted two days later, on August 2.
Currently, Unit-3 of the Barapukuria power plant remains operational and is supplying 170 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
Unit-2, meanwhile, has remained out of operation since 2020.
