Students took to the streets on Monday, rallying for the resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser in response to ongoing issues of public safety and the increasing cases of sexual violence.
The group, Bangladesh Against Rape and Oppression, began their march from Central Shaheed Minar and headed towards the Ministry of Home Affairs.
As the group made its way through Dhaka University’s TSC area, they reached the Education Building, where they were confronted by the police, who blocked their path.
This led to some pushing and shoving between the protesters and law enforcement.
Despite the police attempt to stop them, the marchers cleared the obstacles and continued chanting slogans on the road.
However, the protesters couldn’t move forward towards the Secretariat due to the ongoing blockade. Instead, they sat down on the streets, keeping their voices loud and clear.
Earlier, around 2:15 PM, the protesters had gathered for a brief rally at the Shaheed Minar.
Their key demands included the resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser for his failure to ensure public safety, stronger measures to stop the rising incidents of rape and sexual abuse, swift justice for all such cases, and the reform of related laws.
This march came as part of the students` persistent push for justice and accountability in the face of rising sexual violence in the country.
