On the occassion of the 50th Victory Day of Bangladesh President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tribute to the heroes of the Liberation War by placing floral wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar on Thursday (December 16) morning.
President Abdul Hamid first placed a wreath at the altar of the memorial at 6:30 am on Thursday (December 16). Following him, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed a wreath.
At that time, the President and the Prime Minister stood in solemn silence in memory of the heroic martyrs of the Liberation War.
A well-equipped contingent of the army, navy and air force then saluted the state. During this time a poignant tune was played on the bugle.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's younger daughter Sheikh Rehana was also present during the occassion.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed a second floral wreath at the altar as party cheif of ruling Awami Leaue.
Afterwards, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and leaders of various political as well as socio-cultural organizations placed floral wreaths at the memorial.
Bangladesh is observing 50 glorious years of victory highling great significance of the day though various cultural programs, and festivities.
