A group of probationary Sub-Inspectors (SI), who were recently dismissed from their positions, have returned to protest in front of the Secretariat on Monday, demanding their jobs back.
Their protest started around 10:30 AM this morning, as they gathered on one side of the road outside the Secretariat.
As of this report, they are still there, continuing their peaceful protest.
This is not the first time these probationary SIs have staged a protest. On January 5 and 6, they had gathered in the same location with the same demands.
At that time, the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs assured them that their concerns would be addressed, and the protest was called off.
The authorities had set a deadline of January 12 for resolving the matter, but since nothing has changed, the SIs have decided to resume their protest today.
The protesting officers have said they plan to stay until the afternoon. If their demands are not met by 4 PM, they will announce their next steps.
Masud Rana, one of the dismissed SI`s, said, “We were unfairly dismissed from our jobs. We were promised that our issue would be solved and our jobs would be given back. Now, we’ve come to the Secretariat to find out what decision has been made regarding our situation.”
Subir Roy, another of the dismissed SI`s expressed saying, “We will continue to stay here in front of the Secretariat until the afternoon. If our demands aren’t met by then, we’ll announce our next course of action after 4 PM.”
The probationary SIs were dismissed recently for violating discipline while training at the Sarada Police Academy.
These 321 officers from the 40th Cadet Batch had previously protested on January 5 and 6, seeking to have their dismissals overturned and their jobs reinstated.
