The Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Unified Council held a large protest rally inside the Secretariat on Sunday for the second consecutive day, opposing the draft of the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
The organization has labeled the ordinance as "repressive and black law" and is demanding its immediate withdrawal.
On Sunday morning, hundreds of employees were seen leaving their offices and joining the protest rally within the Secretariat premises. As the crowd grew, protestors chanted slogans like "We will not accept illegal black laws." The rally marched through various parts of the Secretariat compound.
Last Thursday, the interim government`s advisory council approved the draft of the ordinance, which amends the Government Service Act, 2018.
Critics allege that the draft includes some "repressive clauses" taken from special provisions introduced over four decades ago.
They argue that these changes would allow authorities to easily punish or even dismiss government employees.
Protesters have described the draft ordinance as conflicting with the Constitution and are calling for its reconsideration.
