Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is taking strict action against anyone who fails to carry out their responsibilities properly, regardless of whether they are government officials or political figures.
“Whether someone belongs to the bureaucracy or is a political person, the Prime Minister is taking strong action if anyone fails to properly perform their responsibilities,” Rizvi said.
He was speaking at a discussion titled “Bangladesh of Tomorrow” and the unveiling of the book “Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Five-Month Development Journey” at the CRAB auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Saturday morning.
Rizvi also said, the book brings together the government`s activities and achievements during its first five months in office, supported by figures and statistics.
“Various discussions are taking place about the elected government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. But this book presents various events and activities of what the government has done during these five months along with statistics,” he said.
He said the information was already known to the public, but compiling it in an organised form would make the book an important record of the government`s work.
Rizvi highlighted several initiatives, including the Family Card, Farmers Card and canal excavation programmes, as well as the planned introduction of a Health Card.
He also said the book documents steps taken by the government to address the country`s gas shortage.
According to Rizvi, Tarique Rahman had made several commitments before the election and has been travelling across the country since taking office to oversee their implementation.
“He is working day and night and personally monitoring whether his pledges are being implemented,” Rizvi said, adding that the Prime Minister was also encouraging officials and others who were performing their duties properly.
Rizvi also criticised what he described as propaganda against the government.
He said a book based on facts, figures and statistics could help people assess the government`s performance rather than rely on what he called misleading narratives.
He alleged that those spreading what he described as false information about the government were seeking to undermine its initiatives.
“If a book is written with facts, figures and statistics about the Prime Minister’s activities and his dedication to people, it will remain an important document in the hands of everyone,” he said.
The discussion was chaired by Rotarian M Nazmul Hasan, adviser to the organisation, and moderated by its president, Saidur Rahman.
BNP lawmaker Advocate Arifa Sultana Ruma, BNP Executive Committee member Mahbubur Rahman and Chhatra Dal Vice-President Touhid Awal, among others, attended the event.
