Police have stepped up security in anticipation of implicit attacks and disruptive activities during the three-day nationwide blockade that Jamaat-e-Islami and the BNP have called for.

Police headquarters (PHQ) sources said that all police units countrywide have been instructed to step up security and become more watchful.

PHQ today urged the public to dial the national emergency number 999 in order to alert law enforcement to any actions that could worsen the condition of law and order.

According to a statement from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Headquarters, the RAB will send out about 300 petrol teams to maintain public safety and safeguard state property.

The statement claims that intelligence surveillance has already been strengthened by the elite force to find anyone who might engage in subversive activity.

According to officials, sufficient numbers of special squads and striking units from both RAB and the police have been kept on ready for immediate deployment.

"We have already instructed highway, rail, and river police to stay vigilant so that no one can carry out any ambush," said Md Anwar Hossain, deputy inspector general (operation) of PHQ.

In addition, the highway police have organized special monitoring teams to make sure that traffic moves smoothly on the highways.

Md Shahabuddin Khan, additional inspector general of the highway police said "In coordination with the district and metropolitan police units, we will make adequate deployment

if necessary."

DMP has taken security measures based on the incidents of October 28 and October 29 violence.

Police have already set up checkpoints at all entry points to the capital and throughout major points of Dhaka.
