Shahriar Kabir, president of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, has been arrested in Dhaka.
The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Tejgaon authorities arrested Kabir, a journalist, filmmaker, human rights activist, and author, at his Banani residence around 12:30 am on Tuesday.
He has been sent to the CMM Court later today.
According to Officer-in-Charge Rasel Sarwar of Banani police station, Kabir is currently in DB custody.
On August 20, Mufti Harun Izhar Chowdhury, Hefazat-e-Islam`s joint secretary, complained with the International Crimes Tribunal, accusing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 23 others, including Shahriar Kabir, of crimes against humanity and mass killing related to a Hefazat-e-Islam rally on May 5, 2013, at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel.
Kabir has also been implicated in a murder case concerning the death of student Imran Hossain in Kutubkhali, Jatrabari, on August 5.
