Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, the Adviser on Youth and Sports, has encouraged doctors to share their thoughts and ideas for national reform.
He made this appeal on Saturday, November 23, at a seminar titled "July Revolution at Dhaka Medical College Hospital," held at the Shaheed Dr. Millon Auditorium at Dhaka Medical College.
Speaking at the event, Asif Mahmud reflected on how politics had been allowed to influence various sectors in the past, including healthcare, especially under previous authoritarian governments.
He mentioned that during that time, some doctors had even organized peaceful protests against student movements. He stressed that it’s important to prevent politics from entering the medical field in the future.
Asif also shared his own experience from July 15, when the movement was first announced. "We were nervous at the time," he said.
"But when we saw the Dhaka Medical College students gathered at the Raju Sculpture the next morning, ready to protest, it gave us strength and inspiration."
He expressed his gratitude to the medical students who had dedicated themselves to the cause, saying,
"You played a huge role in this movement. I may not have had the chance to thank you properly before, but I want to say thank you now. Your contributions will always be remembered."
During the seminar, teachers and medical students who were part of the movement shared their own memories and experiences.
