Sr secy Mokhles ur Rahman removed from public administration ministry

The government has removed Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman from his post as Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and reassigned him as a member of the Planning Commission. A notification to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday.

The position of Planning Commission member carries the rank of secretary, allowing Mokhles Ur Rahman to retain his senior secretary status.

Following last year’s mass uprising and the fall of the previous government, the interim administration appointed Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, the then Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on August 28.

Subsequently, Mokhles Ur Rahman — a 1982 batch administration cadre officer brought back from retirement — was appointed Senior Secretary of the ministry on a two-year contractual basis.

During his tenure, the ministry saw considerable controversy and allegations of irregularities in recruitment and transfers, particularly involving the appointment of deputy commissioners.

In a related move, Md. Ruhul Amin, previously a member (secretary) of the Planning Commission, has been made an Officer on Special Duty at the Ministry of Public Administration.
