The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has announced a significant increase in gold prices in the local market. The price of 22-carat gold has been raised by Tk 9,856 per bhori, bringing the new price, including VAT, to Tk 232,930 per bhori.
BAJUS disclosed the new rates in a statement issued on Thursday morning. The revised prices took effect from 10:00 am on the same day.
According to BAJUS, the increase was prompted by a rise in the price of pure gold (acid gold) in the local market. Considering the overall market situation, the association has revised gold prices, including VAT.
Under the new price list, hallmarked 22-carat cadmium gold jewellery is priced at Tk 19,970 per gram, which translates to approximately Tk 232,960 per bhori (11.664 grams).
The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 19,075 per gram, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 16,380 per gram. Traditional-method gold has been priced at Tk 13,380 per gram.
BAJUS has also revised silver prices. Under the new rates, hallmarked 22-carat silver is priced at Tk 420 per gram, 21-carat silver at Tk 400 per gram, 18-carat silver at Tk 345 per gram, and traditional-method silver at Tk 260 per gram.
This is the 98th adjustment to gold prices in Bangladesh so far this year. Of those, prices have been increased 48 times, reduced 49 times, and VAT has been adjusted once.
