Gold price rises by Tk 4,374 per bhori

Gold prices have gone up again in Bangladesh, with the price of 22-carat gold increasing by Tk 4,374 per bhori to Tk 234,038, including VAT.

The new rate, announced by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) on Saturday, came into effect at 10am.

BAJUS said the latest adjustment was made in response to a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market.

Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold now costs Tk 223,541 per bhori, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk 191,931. 

The price of traditional gold has been set at Tk 156,822 per bhori. All prices include VAT.

The new rates will remain in effect at jewellery shops across the country until further notice. 

However, customers may have to pay different making charges depending on the design and type of jewellery.

BAJUS also reminded customers that VAT is already included in the listed selling price of gold and silver ornaments, meaning sellers cannot charge VAT separately.

The latest increase comes just a day after BAJUS lowered the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 3,266 per bhori to Tk 229,664 on August 7.

With Saturday‍‍`s adjustment, gold prices have now been revised 100 times in Bangladesh this year. 

Of those changes, prices were raised 49 times and lowered 50 times, while one adjustment was related to VAT.

Meanwhile, silver prices remained unchanged.

A bhori of 22-carat silver is currently selling for Tk 4,899, including VAT. 

The prices of 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional silver stand at Tk 4,666, Tk 4,024 and Tk 3,033 per bhori, respectively.

According to BAJUS, silver prices have been revised 61 times so far this year, with 31 increases and 30 decreases.
