The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) increased gold prices on July 31 following a surge in global gold prices. The revised rates, which came into effect from 10:00 am on Friday, are still being followed in the local market today (Wednesday).
Under the latest pricing, 22-carat gold is being sold at Tk223,074 per bhori (11.664 grams), including VAT.
BAJUS said the new prices were set after considering the overall market situation, particularly the increase in the price of acid gold (pure gold) in the local market. The revised rates will remain in effect until further notice.
According to the new rates, 21-carat gold is being sold at Tk213,043 per bhori, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk182,950 per bhori. The price of traditional-method gold has been fixed at Tk149,474 per bhori.
BAJUS also said that making charges for gold jewellery will vary depending on the design. However, as VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, customers cannot be charged VAT separately.
Earlier, on July 28, BAJUS had reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,216 per bhori, setting it at Tk220,858 per bhori, including VAT.
So far this year, gold prices in Bangladesh have been adjusted 97 times. Prices have been increased on 47 occasions, reduced on 49 occasions, and VAT has been adjusted once.
