Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has emphasized that the state cannot discriminate against any religion and must ensure equal dignity for people of all faiths.
Speaking on Tuesday during a visit to the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka on the occasion of Durga Puja, he exchanged greetings with members of the Hindu community and reiterated his government’s commitment to religious equality.
“We want to build a nation that the world can look up to,” the Chief Adviser said. “To achieve this vision, people of all faiths must work together. If we remain divided, we will fail as a nation — and we do not want to fail. We want to build a new Bangladesh where all citizens enjoy equal rights.”
Highlighting the importance of religious freedom, Dr. Yunus stated that festivals should be celebrated in an open environment, not within the confines of security barricades. “We aim to create a state where everyone can practice and celebrate their religion freely. Regardless of differences, the government will not discriminate against anyone,” he added.
On Monday, leaders of various Puja Celebration Committees met with the Chief Adviser at the state guesthouse Jamuna and invited him to visit different Puja mandaps. They informed him that more than 1,000 new mandaps have been added across the country this year and preparations for the festival are in full swing.
Dr. Yunus also said he wishes he could meet with the Hindu community more often but finds the annual Durga Puja to be an important opportunity to engage directly with them.
