Students from the seven colleges in Dhaka have come forward with a set of six demands, placing intense pressure on Dhaka University’s administration.

The students are calling for the resignation of Dhaka University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education), Professor Dr. Mamun, and they’ve set a four-hour deadline for their demands to be addressed.

If their demands aren’t met, they’ve warned that they will escalate their actions.

The students voiced their concerns at a press conference held at Dhaka College campus at nearly 11:45 AM on Monday.

They also made it clear that they want the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of New Market Police Station to resign.

The press conference featured speeches from Mohammad Shafique Uddin, a student from Dhaka College, and Sumaiya Akter, a student from Eden Mohila College.

Here are the six demands the students are insisting on:

  1. Apology and Resignation: The Dhaka University administration must apologize for the clashes between students of Dhaka College and Dhaka University. In addition, they demand the resignation of Professor Mamun Ahmed, the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University.
  2. Action Against Police Involved in Attack: Following the violent attack on Dhaka College students by New Market police, including the attempted murder of student Rakib, the students are calling for the removal of the police officers involved. They demand a full investigation and appropriate disciplinary action.
  3. Accountability for Misconduct: Students want those responsible for making inappropriate comments and gestures towards female students from Eden College, Badarunnisa College, and other colleges to face legal consequences.
  4. Sever Ties with Dhaka University: The students are demanding the immediate severing of academic and administrative ties between Dhaka University and the seven colleges. They have also asked for a detailed roadmap to establish an independent university within four hours, according to their demands.
  5. Urgent High-Level Meeting: The students want an urgent high-level meeting involving the Chief Advisor, Education Advisor, Advisor Nahid Islam, a UGC member, and the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, along with representatives from the seven colleges, to find a quick resolution.
  6. Opening Roads for Public Access: Finally, the students are asking for the roads around Dhaka University to be opened to the public by the City Corporation.

The students made it clear that they are serious about their demands and will take further action if their issues are not addressed within the set timeframe.
