Suspect held over killing Rohingya leader Mohibullah

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has held a suspect in connection with the murder of a top Rohingya leader and chairman of Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights Mohibullah.

The arrestee was identified as Khalil.

PBI made the arrest on Friday (October 1) morning.

Officer in Charge (OC) Sanjur Morshed of Ukhia police station confirmed the matter to media later on the day.

Earlier on Thursday, the brother of the slain Rohingya leader, Habibullah, filed a case with the police station against more than two hundred anonymous.

Law enforcers launched a drive to nab the perpetrators of the killing, Sanjur Morshed said.

Mohibullah was buried at Kutupalang camp on Thursday afternoon. Nervy siege was prevailing in and around the camp.

The murder sparked local and international criticism.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) expressed deep concern and shock over the demise. The UN body urged the Bangladesh government to conduct a fair investigation on the incident followed by the rights group Amnesty International.

Mohibullah was shot dead around 8:30 pm Wednesday (September 29) night while he was staying at his office in the Kutupalong refugee camp.
