The ongoing protest by candidates seeking reinstatement of their canceled appointments as Assistant Teachers in government primary schools has now entered its 13th day.
On February 18, the demonstrators resumed their sit-in at Shahbagh, in front of the National Museum, at around 9:30 AM.
The protesters are waiting eagerly for a court hearing that will address their request to cancel the decision that invalidated the results and appointment letters for the selected candidates.
They plan to hold a press conference after the hearing to announce their next steps.
Currently, the protesters are holding their sit-in during the day at Shahbagh and moving to the National Press Club in the evening.
This round-the-clock protest has continued for 13 consecutive days, with participants from Dhaka and Chattogram who are hoping to regain their job positions.
The recruitment process for Assistant Teachers was announced in three phases. The recruitment for the first two phases has been completed successfully.
However, there is still uncertainty regarding the third phase, which has caused a lot of frustration among the candidates.
On June 14, 2023, the notification for the third phase was published. After the written and oral exams, the results were announced on October 31, 2023, with 6,531 candidates passing.
However, some candidates who were not selected filed a writ petition, leading to the temporary suspension of the decision to issue appointment letters to the successful candidates for six months.
On February 6, the High Court ruled to cancel the decision to issue the appointment letters, but the Directorate of Primary Education filed an appeal in the Appellate Division, requesting the suspension of the High Court`s ruling.
The protesters are now focusing their hopes on the outcome of the court`s decision, which will determine their future.
