The Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-uz-Zaman, has instructed army personnel to carry out their duties with patience and minimal use of force in order to maintain peace and order in the country until an elected government is in place.
Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony and awards distribution of the Bangladesh Army`s firing competition on Monday, February 24, at the Savar Cantonment’s firing range, General Waker emphasized the importance of using the least amount of force necessary.
He remarked, “Force should not be applied. Sometimes, during these tasks, some force might be necessary.”
However, he stressed that whenever force is necessary, it should always be proportional.
“The less force used to carry out these tasks, the better,” he added.
General Waker reminded the army personnel of their critical role in ensuring the country’s peace until an elected government takes office, saying, “We must continue our efforts for the country and the nation until we have an elected government and the country is in a state of peace and order. Until that time, we must carry out our duties with patience.”
During the ceremony, he also shared that he would personally be taking part in firing exercises after a long gap.
He explained, “Proficiency in firing is essential for a soldier’s professional development. It’s a key part of basic training. This annual competition plays an important role in enhancing the skills and standards of our army personnel.”
General Waker’s remarks reflect a clear commitment to maintaining peace with responsibility and professionalism until a stable and elected government is in place.
