Sumon Sikder alias Musa, the suspected mastermind of the assassination of former general secretary of Motijheel Thana Awami League Zahidul Islam (Tipu), has been brought back to the country.
Musa was brought to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on a Bangladesh Biman flight around 9am on Thursday.
"We hope to get important information from Musa about the sensational murder," said an intelligence officer who brought Musa. Detailed information will be disclosed based on completion of the legal process.
Zahidul Islam was shot dead at the Amtala Mosque area of Shahjahanpur in the capital on the night of 24 March over dispute on establishing supremacy in party and control in underworld. College student Samia Afrin Preeti, 22, who was sitting in a rickshaw at the time, was also shot dead.
Earlier, a three-member police team led by Shahidur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel division of detective police, went to Oman on Sunday to bring Musa back. Earlier on 10 May, the National Central Bureau (NCB) at the police headquarters requested the Oman NCB to arrest Sumon Sikder. Oman police arrested him on 17 May.
