Army to act as striking force in DUCSU election

The Bangladesh Army will be deployed as a striking force on the campus during the upcoming Dhaka University (DU) Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election scheduled for September 9.

Chief Returning Officer Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin confirmed Tuesday that army personnel will cordon off polling centers during vote counting to ensure security. The decision was taken during a meeting of returning officers.

Professor Dr. Jasim Uddin stated that the army will be stationed at the university’s seven main entrances on election day. After voting concludes, the army will secure the polling centers until results are officially announced to prevent any unauthorized access.

In addition, the DU Metro Rail station will remain closed on election day. No outsiders will be allowed inside the residential halls starting seven days before the election, he added.
