A heart-wrenching incident occurred in Gazipur where a man is suspected to have taken the lives of his wife and four-year-old daughter before ending his own.
The bodies were discovered on Sunday morning in their home, located in the Gobindabari Dewanpara area, under the jurisdiction of Kashimpur Police Station.
The victims have been identified as Md. Nazmul Islam, aged 29, his wife Khadija Akter, aged 22, and their daughter Nadia Akter, who was only four years old.
Nazmul hailed from Shulpratima village in Tangail’s Sakhipur Upazila, and had been living in Gazipur in a house built on land gifted by his father-in-law.
It was Nazmul’s father-in-law who first discovered something was wrong. When the family didn’t wake up as usual, he peered through a window at the back of the house and saw Nazmul’s body hanging.
Concerned, he immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and found the door locked from the inside.
Once inside, they discovered the lifeless bodies of Khadija and Nadia on the bed.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kashimpur Police Station, Md. Moniruzzaman, shared details of the discovery.
"We found Nazmul hanging inside the house with the door locked from within. Upon opening the door, we discovered the bodies of his wife and child on the bed," he explained.
Preliminary investigations point to the possibility that Nazmul might have suffocated or strangled his wife and daughter before taking his own life. Police also found a bottle of Harpic at the scene, raising further questions about what transpired before the tragedy unfolded.
There were also reports suggesting that Nazmul had a history of substance abuse, which could have played a role in the tragic incident.
Authorities have sent the bodies to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsies, and police are now working on gathering more information to understand the full details behind this heartbreaking case.
Legal procedures will follow as the investigation continues.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, as friends, neighbors, and relatives grapple with the tragic loss of three lives.
