Md. Mohiuddin Khan, the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Dhaka University branch, expressed his strong disapproval on social media regarding the recent events involving a harasser being treated as a symbol of Islam.
In a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon, he wrote, "When a harasser is made a symbol of Islam by Muslims themselves, it is disrespectful to Islam."
The post went on to add, "Those who welcomed the harasser with flowers and presented him as a hero, encouraging such harassment, will have to face the consequences for their actions. The Muslims in this region will bear the repercussions."
This statement follows the case of Mustafa Asif Ornob, an assistant book binder at Dhaka University`s library, who was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a female student in the Shahbagh area of Dhaka.
After a court hearing on Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub granted him bail, setting a bond of one thousand taka.
In addition to this, the victim has requested the withdrawal of the case. Abul Kalam Azad, a Sub-Inspector at Shahbagh Police Station, confirmed that the complainant had submitted the request for case withdrawal.
The situation has sparked debate, with many questioning the treatment of the harasser as a hero and the implications this has on societal values.
