Two tourists, including a student of Dhaka University, killed when a jeep carrying tourists fell into a ditch in the Keokradong tourist area of Ruma upazila in Bandarban. 12 people were injured.
The accident took place at Darjeeling area on the Baga Lake-Keokradong road on the way back to the district headquarters around 8 am on Saturday. The deceased are Zainab (24) and Feroza Begum (50).
The injured are Rafan (12), Ushsi Nag (15) and Joba Rai Nag (45), Mahfuza Islam (45), Amena Begum (60), Tahmina (19), Tannim, Rizvi (34), Anjuman Haque (35). , Itu (16) and Swarna (23).
The condition of two of the injured is said to be critical. The victims had traveled to Keokradong from an organization called "Bhramankonna".
Ruma Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Syed Mahbubul Haque said from the scene, the car lost control and fell into a mountain gorge about 500 meters away.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Shah Mojahid Uddin said that a team of 58 people visiting from Dhaka went to Boga Lake in Ruma Upazila on Friday morning with five jeeps. Later, after traveling from Baga Lake to Keokradong, they fell into a jeep ditch in Darjeeling neighborhood on Baga Lake-Keokradong road while returning to the district at 8 am on Saturday. Two tourists were killed on the spot. 12 others were injured.
After the incident, army personnel and firemen quickly started rescue operations. They rescued the injured and gave first aid at Ruma Upazila Health Complex. As the condition of some is critical, they have been sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
Ruma Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Tanmoy said that two people were killed. The injured have been sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.
