At least two people have been gunned down as factional clashes erupted in Rangamati district over establishing supremacy.
The incident occurred at Rupkari union in at Baghaichhari upazila on Wednesday.
Chairman of the union parishad Shyamal Chakma said, “Local political party United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) and Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) locked into clashes at Dui Kilo area in the union. Several rounds were fired during the clashes.
UPDF (Democratic) upazila coordinator Zenon Chakma and another JSS (Larma) activist were shot dead during the altercation. However, the deceased could not be identified immediately. Tense situation has been prevailing in the area.
“Police recovered the bodies. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed to avert any untoward situation,” Shyamal said.
