The United Nations is fully prepared to engage in a national dialogue to help resolve the current issues facing Bangladesh and to work toward solutions that will benefit the people of the country.
This statement was made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres during a joint press conference on Saturday, March 15, at 5 p.m.
In his address, Guterres praised Bangladesh for its continued efforts to support the Rohingya refugees.
He emphasized that the UN would collaborate closely with Bangladesh to facilitate the safe return of the Rohingya people to their homeland.
The Secretary-General also touched on the ongoing reform initiatives being carried out by Bangladesh’s interim government.
Guterres, after meeting with the UN Country Team in Bangladesh, visited the newly built UN office in Gulshan.
Before this visit, he joined hands with Adilur Rahman Khan, the Advisor for Industries, Housing, and Public Works, to officially inaugurate the "UN House in Bangladesh" in the same area.
During the inauguration ceremony, prominent figures such as Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the Advisor on Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, and Gwen Lewis, the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, were also present.
With the UN’s commitment to Bangladesh’s future and its ongoing support for the Rohingya, this national dialogue initiative offers hope for a brighter and more peaceful future for the people of Bangladesh.
