UN Secretary-General António Guterres is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka today for a four-day visit.
His plane is expected to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5 PM on Thursday, where he will be welcomed by Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain.
During his visit, Guterres is expected to hold several important meetings. On the first day, he will meet with the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, as well as Hossain.
These discussions are likely to focus on pressing issues such as the Rohingya repatriation, investigations into the July movement, and the current human rights situation.
After these meetings, Guterres will travel to Cox`s Bazar to visit the Rohingya refugee camps.
There, he is scheduled to meet with the refugees and join an iftar with 100,000 Rohingya people.
This marks an important part of his visit as he returns to Bangladesh`s refugee camps, having first visited in 2018.
On Saturday, Guterres will visit the UN office in Dhaka, followed by meetings with the National Consensus Commission and civil society groups.
He is also set to hold a press conference. Later that day, in honor of his visit, the Chief Advisor will host an iftar and dinner in his honor.
The Secretary-General`s visit comes at a critical time for Bangladesh, as the government hopes that this visit will bring global attention back to the ongoing Rohingya crisis, which remains a pressing humanitarian issue.
