UP Polls: Three shot dead by law enforcers in Thakurgaon

Clashes broke out centering the result of the third phase Union Parishad election in Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon.

At least three people were shot dead as law enforcers intervene in the clash to bring the situation under control leaving five more people injured.

The incident took place at Ghidob govt primary school polling centre in Khangaon union of the upazila on Sunday (November 28).

Officer in Charge (OC) Jahangir Alam of Pirganj police station confirmed the matter to TheReport.live.

The deceased were identified as Sahabali Hossain, Mojharul and Aditya

Local sources said, supporters of BNP-backed candidate Nuruzzaman escorted the centre along with the presiding officer and other election officials around 8pm Sunday night while the vote counting was underway.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer reached the area and soon the supporters vandalized his vehicle.

Later on, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed in the area prompting retaliation.
