The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the much-anticipated door-to-door voter list update campaign will begin on January 20.

This was confirmed by KM Ali Newaz, the Additional Secretary of the Election Commission, in a statement on Monday, December 30.

Ali Newaz shared, "We are hoping to kick off this process in the second half of January 2025. Preparations have already been completed. By January 5, we plan to finish training the trainers who will, in turn, train the field staff responsible for gathering the data door-to-door."

He added that the draft voter list will be made available to the public on January 2, 2025.

"It will be open for everyone to check. If anyone is left out of the list, there will be a process in place to handle claims and objections. Once these are addressed, the final voter list will be released on March 2. This list will be considered as both the updated 2024 voter list and the official voter list for 2025."

Ali Newaz also pointed out that the EC will not just be updating the voter list for 2025, but also collecting data for people who will turn 18 by January 1, 2026.

"These individuals will be included in the 2026 voter list, but they won’t be eligible to vote in any elections held in 2025," he clarified.

The voter list update campaign is seen as an important step toward ensuring a fair and accurate electoral process, as millions of people will have the chance to verify and update their details.
