With the sincere efforts of technical experts, one of the faulty SFRUs has partially resumed operations, while two SFRUs are supplying around 750 mmcfd of gas to the national grid, an official said.
“The two SFRUs (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) have a combined gas supply capacity of 1,000 mmcfd, with each having a capacity of 500 mmcfd,” Chairman of Petrobangla Abdul Mannan told BSS here today.
He said the two FSRUs have been supplying 750 mmcfd of gas to the national grid, helping ease the gas crisis across the country.
Recently, Excelerate Energy`s FSRU at Moheshkhali suffered a severe technical glitch and fire on July 21, 2026, cutting national gas supply temporarily in different parts of the country.
Soon after the incident, experts have been engaged to resolve the problem at the quickest possible time to make ensure normal gas supply to the national grid, the chairman said.
According to the ministry’s proposal, the government in its Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, approved to procure eight cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet emergency domestic energy needs.
Two cargoes each will be procured from four international companies: Blackcube International Ltd (UK), Global Fuel Supplies Pte Ltd (Australia), Plentitude Energy Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) and Maxwell International SPC (Oman).
The government also approved a proposal to purchase one LNG cargo from Aramco Trading Singapore, which will delivery on August 11-12, 2026.
Earlier, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood assured for normal gas supply across the country within the next two to three days.
He said eventually gas transmission would resume and the pressure in the gas network would gradually improve.
As part of the government’son efforts to meet the country’s gas demand, 11 cargoes of LNG were imported in July. In June, the government imported a total of nine LNG cargoes through long-term and short-term contracts and the spot market.
Besides, the state-run Petrobangla has two long-term contract with QatarEnergy, one for 2.5 million tonnes per annum and the other for 1.8 million tonnes per year. Deal was also active with OQT for LNG.
