Income tax lawyers on Wednesday burnt the effigy of National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem demanding annulment of Tax Return Preparer (TRP) Ordinance and allocation of space for tax lawyers at the Rajoshho Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon area.
Tax lawyers under the banners of two associations – Dhaka Taxes Bar Association and Bangladesh Taxes Lawyers Association – started gathering at Rajoshho Bhaban premises at around 10:00 am and holds banners of human chain.
At one stage, they burnt the effigy of the NBR chairman.
Terming the TRP ordinance a ‘black law’, Dhaka Taxes Bar Association secretary Advocate Md. Touhid Uzzaman Khan Dipu said the TRP is ‘Conflicting’ to the 1984 Income Tax Ordinance, according to a statement.
In the statement, they demanded annulment of the TRP Ordinance.
The ‘Human Chain’ was addressed by Dhaka Taxes Bar Association president Advocate B N Dulal, Bangladesh Taxes Lawyers Association president and former lawmaker Advocate Md. Sohrab Uddin and general Secretary Advocate Md. Khorshed Alam, among others.
