Pakistan has appointed Imran Haider as its new High Commissioner to Bangladesh, signaling that Syed Ahmed Maroof will not be returning to his post in Dhaka.
A senior official confirmed the appointment, noting that it will take some time for Imran Haider to formally assume his responsibilities, as standard diplomatic procedures must be completed.
Imran Haider is currently serving as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Myanmar and will transition to his new role in Bangladesh in due course.
Syed Ahmed Maroof had been serving as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh since October 2023. In May of this year, he departed Dhaka on a two-week leave, which led to various speculations regarding his return.
The appointment of a new envoy is expected to bring fresh momentum to the diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
