Widespread monsoon rains have continued to batter Dhaka and several regions of Bangladesh, disrupting normal life and raising concerns over landslides and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.

According to the latest weather forecast issued on 9 July, heavy

to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal divisions within the next 24 hours due to an active southwest monsoon.

Low-lying regions, particularly in the southern and southeastern parts of the country, are at high risk of temporary flooding and waterlogging.

The hilly areas of Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar face the additional threat of landslides as the rain continues.

Rain began in the capital early on 8 July and has continued almost without pause, cooling the temperature significantly from previous highs of 37–38°C to around 27°C.

While the rainfall brought relief from the recent intense heatwaves, it has also caused significant disruptions in daily life.

Major roads in Dhaka have become waterlogged, resulting in traffic snarls, delays, and commuter suffering. Overflowing drains in several residential areas have raised health and sanitation concerns.

In Chattogram, local authorities have been advised to stay on high alert due to the potential for landslides and flash floods. Emergency response teams are on standby to assist in case of further deterioration in conditions.

The continuing downpour has also heightened the risks for residents living in informal settlements and flood-prone areas, many of whom are already struggling with poor drainage infrastructure.

A five-day rainfall alert had earlier been issued across Bangladesh, cautioning that the active monsoon would lead to heavy precipitation in several divisions.

With rainfall predicted to persist, the authorities are urging the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
