A Cumilla court has granted a five-day remand for Shah Poran, the individual accused of circulating a disturbing video showing the abuse of a woman in Muradnagar.
Shah Poran is the younger brother of Fazor Ali, who has been arrested for allegedly raping the woman.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mominul Haque of the Cumilla No. 11 Amoli Court approved the remand today (Wednesday) after a hearing that took place around 11:45 AM.
Shah Poran was present in court during the session. The court was informed that the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin of Muradnagar Police Station, had earlier sought a 10-day remand on Sunday for further interrogation.
Following the court order, Shah Poran was transferred to Cumilla Central Jail. Investigators plan to take him into custody from jail for questioning.
Shah Poran was arrested last Thursday from the Burichang area by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The following day, RAB held a press briefing in Dhaka detailing the case and later handed Shah Poran over to Muradnagar police.
On Saturday, he was officially shown as arrested in the case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act.
So far, five individuals, including Shah Poran, have been jailed in connection with the video circulation case. No additional arrests have been made yet.
The incident took place on the night of June 26, when Fazor Ali allegedly entered the victim’s home in Ramchandrapur South Union under the pretense of collecting owed money and raped her.
Several local youths later assaulted both the victim and the accused, stripped the woman, and filmed the abuse. The video was subsequently shared on social media, sparking public outrage.
The victim filed two separate complaints—one on June 27 over the rape and another on June 29 over the video’s dissemination.
Fazor Ali was severely beaten by locals during the incident and remains hospitalized under police guard.
