The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the retail price of a 12-kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplied by private companies by Tk 39.

The new price is set at Tk 1,364, down from Tk 1,403. The revised rate will come into effect from 6 PM today, as announced by BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed on Wednesday.

Under the new pricing structure, the per-kilogram rate of LPG, inclusive of VAT, is now Tk 116.94—down from last month’s Tk 119.24.

This means the price per kilogram has dropped by Tk 2.30. Prices of other LPG cylinder sizes will be adjusted accordingly.

While BERC updates LPG prices monthly based on international benchmarks, consumers continue to report discrepancies in market pricing, with retailers often selling at rates higher than the official ones.

The price of a 12.5-kg LPG cylinder provided by state-owned companies remains unchanged at Tk 825.

For autogas (LPG used in vehicles), the new price has been fixed at Tk 64.30 per liter, compared to Tk 65.57 last month.

LPG is produced by mixing butane and propane. The international price of these components is published monthly by Saudi Aramco under the Saudi Contract Price (CP), which BERC uses as the reference for adjusting domestic prices.

The commission also calculates the average exchange rate for the month using import invoices submitted by local importers. BERC has been regulating LPG prices in the country since April 2021.
