Nahid Islam, the Convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has called on the public to reject extortionists, land grabbers, and corrupt individuals, and to boycott those who support such elements.
“Say no to corruption, extortion, and illegal occupation. Boycott those who stand with the corrupt. The National Citizen Party will stand with you,” Nahid stated during a street rally held in Chuadanga on Wednesday.
The event, organized at Shahid Hasan Square in Chuadanga’s Boro Bazar as part of the NCP’s “March for Nation Building in July” campaign, drew hundreds of participants despite heavy rain.
Nahid expressed gratitude to the crowd for their presence and support, emphasizing that the leaders of the recent uprising remain on the streets fighting for the people.
Highlighting ongoing border violence, Nahid pointed out that in the past 54 years, thousands of Bangladeshis have been killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) bullets—over 200 in Chuadanga alone.
“From now on, the people of Bangladesh will protect their borders, their map, and their sovereignty. Border killings will no longer be tolerated,” he declared.
On bilateral relations, Nahid stressed, “If India seeks friendly relations with Bangladesh, it must be based on equality and mutual respect. India is not the only one Bangladesh depends on; India also depends on Bangladesh. India must never forget that.”
He went on to say that the responsibility to safeguard Bangladesh’s land and sovereignty lies with its students and youth. “We have taken on that responsibility, and the National Citizen Party is committed to this goal,” he added.
Speaking about the background of the July mass uprising, Nahid alleged, “The Hasina government has killed over a thousand people and injured more than 10,000. Some of our brothers have lost eyes, others legs. The BBC reported that the shootings were ordered by Sheikh Hasina herself. She and the Awami League must be held accountable for these atrocities.”
The NCP’s leadership formally launched their march from Hatboalia Bazaar in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district. Upon arriving from Gangni in Meherpur around 1:00 PM, local students welcomed the leaders in the rain.
At Al Taiba intersection in Alamdanga, NCP and members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also greeted them.
The rally later continued toward Chuadanga town, culminating in the street meeting at Shahid Hasan Square.
During the event, the party’s chief organizer (Northern Region), Sarjis Alam, stated, “Our martyrs died with a dream that remains unfulfilled. Until that dream is realized, the struggle must continue.”
Other speakers included NCP Joint Member Secretary Molla Mohammad Faruq Ehsan. Party leaders Akhtar Hossain (Member Secretary), Hasnat Abdullah (Chief Organizer – Southern Region), and Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara were also present.
