Subrata Bain placed on 7-day remand in Jubo Dal leader Arif murder case

Subrata Bain, also known as Fateh Ali, has been granted a seven-day remand by the court in connection with the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Arif.

The remand was approved on Wednesday (9 July) by Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Abdul Wahab at Dhaka.

Earlier, the investigation officer, Police Inspector Mohammad Majharul Islam, requested a ten-day remand for a thorough investigation.

Subrata Bain was produced in court from prison for the remand hearing. During the hearing, the prosecution sought the remand, while the defense lawyers pleaded for bail and cancellation of the remand. After considering both sides, the magistrate approved a seven-day remand.

Subrata Bain was earlier remanded in this case after being arrested on 23 June. On that day, he was virtually presented before the court from prison, which ordered his formal arrest.

The incident occurred on the night of 19 April near The Jhil Café at Noyatola Morol Goli, Hatirjheel area in Dhaka, where Arif Sikder, a leader of the Jubo Dal, was shot.

He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on 21 April.

Arif Sikder was the former co-sports secretary of Ward 36 of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo Dal.

Following his death, Arif’s sister, Rima Akter, filed a murder case at Hatirjheel police station against Subrata Bain, his accomplice Mahfuzur Rahman Bipu, and eight others.

The case is currently under investigation by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Tejgaon division.

Other accused in the case include Mohammad Yasin (19), Mohammad Asif Hossain (21), Mohammad Anik (19), Mohammad Miraj (19), Mohammad Ashik (19), Mohammad Ifti (24), Jafar Imam Tarfadar Montu (40), Ratan Sheikh (45), and Alif (19).

Previously, on 27 May, Subrata Bain and his associates, including Molla Masud, were arrested by the army in Kushtia district with weapons.

The following day, the court granted an eight-day remand to Subrata Bain in a case filed under the Arms Act at Hatirjheel police station.
