Author Sujan Dasgupta, best known for creating Eken Babu character, died at 80 in Kolkata.
The body of Bengali detective series and movie on Ekendra Sen, alias Eken Babu’s writer was discovered on Wednesday morning by his house-help at his apartment in Kolkata’s Survey Park neighborhood, reports Hindustan Times.
He was reportedly alone at the home as his wife went to Shantiniketan the day earlier.
The body was found near the washroom and sent for postmortem by the police.
Sujan Dasgupta was a resident of America for the last five decades. He came to Kolkata for a movie, a couple of months ago.
The matter is under investigation of Survey Park police in Kolkata, stated Hindustan Times.
Actor Anirban Chakrabarti who plays Eken Babu character said in a statement, “I honestly don’t know what to say about this demise. The man behind Eken Babu character is no more just breaks my heart…”
Due to the popularity of the detective series, ‘Eken Babu’ appeared on screen for the audience from the pages of books. OTT platform Hoichoi streamed six seasons of ‘Eken Babu’ since 2018, the mystery-based comedy genre series having 8.1 IMDB rating out of 10.
