US actor Nicholas Brendon, widely known for his role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at the age of 54, his family confirmed.
In a statement shared on social media, the family said Brendon passed away in his sleep from natural causes.
Brendon rose to fame for portraying Xander Harris, a key character in the hit television series that aired from 1997 to 2003.
Following the news, tributes poured in from colleagues and fans, including co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who remembered him with a message referencing the show.
Beyond Buffy, Brendon appeared in several television series such as Criminal Minds, Private Practice and Kitchen Confidential.
He also featured in films including Psycho Beach Party and Big Gay Love.
The actor had spoken publicly about his personal challenges, including health issues and struggles with addiction, and had been an advocate for raising awareness about stuttering.
His family said he had been receiving treatment and remained optimistic about his future before his passing.
