Members of Rapid Action Battalion have arrested another accused in the case over the killing of a man known as a self-proclaimed “Pir” in Kushtia.
The arrested suspect, Rajib Mistry, 32, was detained during a drive in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi late Thursday night, officials said.
He is one of the four named accused in the case filed over the killing of Abdur Rahman, who was attacked at his shrine in Daulatpur upazila.
Officials said Rajib was arrested in a joint operation by RAB units from Rajshahi and Kushtia and later sent to jail through a court on Friday.
Police said a total of four suspects have now been arrested in the case, while operations are continuing to catch others involved.
The victim was killed on April 11 after being beaten and attacked at his shrine in Philipnagar union. Three of his followers were also injured in the incident.
According to locals, the attack was triggered after an old video resurfaced, leading to allegations against the victim.
A case was filed by the victim’s family against several named and unnamed people, and investigations are ongoing.
