Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of customs officer Bullet Bairagi in Cumilla, Rapid Action Battalion said today.

At a press briefing in Dhaka, RAB officials said the victim was targeted after getting off a bus while returning from Chattogram. He was allegedly taken onto a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, beaten and later thrown from the moving vehicle.

His body was recovered the next morning beside the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in the Kotbari area, with multiple injury marks.

RAB said five suspects were arrested during operations in Cumilla on April 26. Law enforcers also seized the victim’s mobile phone, wallet and travel bag, along with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and weapons believed to have been used in the crime.

The arrested individuals are residents of Cumilla’s Amratoli area and are believed to be part of an organised group targeting long-distance passengers for robbery.

A case has been filed with Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station by the victim’s mother against unidentified attackers.

The victim, an assistant revenue officer, had been returning home after completing training in Chattogram and was in contact with his family shortly before the incident.

RAB said the investigation is ongoing.
