A man accused of killing two Bangladeshi doctoral students in the United States allegedly used ChatGPT to search for ways to dispose of a body, according to court documents.

Prosecutors said Hisham Abugharbieh, 26, made the searches days before the victims went missing. He has been charged with first-degree murder over the deaths of Zamil Limon and Nahida Bristy, both students at the University of South Florida.

According to the filing, the suspect asked the AI chatbot about placing a body in a garbage bag and disposing of it. Investigators later found items belonging to the victims in a dumpster near his residence, along with evidence linking them to the scene.

Authorities said Limon’s body was recovered near a bridge, with an autopsy indicating he died from multiple sharp force injuries. Officials believe Bristy is also dead, though formal identification of recovered remains is still pending.

Investigators said the suspect initially gave misleading information about the victims’ whereabouts but later changed his statement after being confronted with location data. Evidence also suggests he purchased cleaning supplies and disposed of personal items linked to the victims.

He was arrested after a brief standoff and is currently being held without bail. In addition to murder, he faces charges related to evidence tampering and failure to report a death.

The case has shocked the academic community, with the university expressing grief over the loss of the two students. Their families have requested that funeral arrangements follow Islamic rites.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, with further court proceedings expected this week.
