A Bangladeshi doctoral student has been found dead in the United States, while another student from Bangladesh remains missing, authorities said.
The body of Zamil Limon was recovered from the Howard Frankland Bridge in Florida, according to local law enforcement.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said the search is still ongoing for Nahida Bristy, who has not been located.
Police have taken the victim’s roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugharbeih, into custody on several preliminary charges, including domestic violence, false imprisonment and tampering with evidence.
Investigators said officers initially responded to a domestic violence call near the campus of the University of South Florida.
Authorities evacuated family members from the residence before the suspect barricaded himself inside. A SWAT team was later deployed, and he eventually surrendered without incident.
Officials said both Limon and Bristy had been missing since April 16.
Limon was a doctoral student in geography and environmental studies, while Bristy was studying chemical engineering.
Police began investigating after a family friend reported being unable to contact them.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about Bristy’s whereabouts to come forward as the search continues.
