Two employees were shot dead during a robbery at a bank branch in Berea, Kentucky, prompting a major search for the suspect, authorities said.
Police said a man wearing a hoodie, gloves and a mask entered a branch of U.S. Bank and opened fire, killing a male and a female employee.
A spokesperson for the Kentucky State Police said officers are following several leads and working to identify and arrest the attacker.
Law enforcement teams have launched a wide search operation using helicopters, drones and dogs. Officers are also going door to door and reviewing security footage.
Authorities said it is still unclear how the suspect fled or whether any money was taken.
Police have released a photo of the suspect and asked the public to share any information.
Nearby schools were briefly placed under lockdown after the incident, with students picked up by parents as a safety measure.
The bank said it is cooperating with investigators and expressed sadness over the deaths of its employees.
