As part of the multifaceted measures to rationalize government spending in the context of post-Covid economic recovery and the global crisis, travel abroad in `first class` by air at government expense has been suspended until further notice.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed the summary in this regard on Wednesday (May 31).
Earlier, on November 9 last year, the Finance Department of the Ministry of Finance issued a notification obstructing government officials and employees from traveling abroad as part of government`s plan to reduce the pressure on foreign exchange reserves.
The notification said, “In the context of the current global economic situation, all types of foreign travel will be closed until further notice of all officers at all levels of the Ministries/Departments/Other Institutions and Sub-Divisions/Departments/Departments, Autonomous/Semi-Autonomous Bodies, Public Sector Corporations and State-Owned Companies under the operational and development budget of the Government.”
Apart from this, all self-financed foreign travel by autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations, public sector corporations and state-owned companies will also be stopped.
The Ministry of Finance issued an order on September 19, last year allowing officials to go abroad with limited approval from the authorities.
