On the second day of Eid-ul-Adha, Israeli airstrikes across Gaza have killed at least 75 Palestinians, including women and children, amid escalating violence in the region.
A residential building in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood was hit without prior warning, resulting in what the Palestinian Civil Defence described as a “full-fledged massacre.” Rescuers are still searching for approximately 85 people believed to be trapped under the rubble.
Mahmoud Basel, spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defence, told Al Jazeera that the Israeli military launched the strike without any alert or warning. Local residents recounted waking up to the destruction and chaos instead of Eid celebrations, carrying the bodies of their loved ones from the debris.
The destroyed building belonged to the Abu Sharia family. The Israeli military confirmed the death of Asaad Abu Sharia, a top Palestinian fighter and leader of the Mujahideen Brigades, who was accused of participating in the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel. Hamas also confirmed the killing of his brother, Ahmed Abu Sharia, labeling the strike as part of a “series of brutal massacres against civilians.”
The incident adds to the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza as Eid festivities are overshadowed by violence and loss.
