With India`s Lok Sabha elections looming, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a significant declaration regarding Jammu and Kashmir`s statehood.
Addressing a rally in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, Modi revealed, "There will be assembly elections very soon."
This announcement comes against the backdrop of India`s ruling BJP government`s contentious decision to revoke Article 370, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status, shortly after securing a second term in power on August 5, 2019. The move ignited widespread debate concerning the rights of the state`s inhabitants.
However, Modi refrained from providing explicit details regarding the potential reactivation or reinstatement of this clause within the Indian Constitution.
