Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan was issued a show-cause notice today by the election enquiry commission for allegedly threatening voters during the election campaign, a violation of the electoral code of conduct.
Nurul is Awami League`s nominated MP for the Panchagarh-2 constituency.
Md Ismail Hossain, the committee chairman and senior assistant district judge, issued the notice this evening, demanding that the candidate attend at his office by 12:00pm tomorrow to provide a written statement in this regard.
According to the notice, Nurul Islam intimidated voters while delivering speeches in separate election campaigns in the district`s Debiganj and Boda upazilas yesterday.
During his speech, he threatened voters that they (Awami League) would prepare two separate lists on election day, one for those who will vote and one for those who will not, according to the notice.
He also said, "You (people) receive government benefits but will not exercise voting rights, it will be not granted."
The notification also stated that there was a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct in the news about the speech that was shared on social media.
